Informative Questions

Informative Questions are use to ask about qualities, people, time, etc. They consist of who, what, where, which, when, why, which, and how, that are usually called WH-questions. Most WH-questions begin with a Questions word + Auxiliary + Subject + Verb.


Let's study the following examples:
  • Who is the man in the green hat? 
  • What does she do in the weekend? 
  • What are you reading? 
  • Where did you go on your holiday?
  • When did you go come? 
  • When does the bus leave? 
  • Why are you late? 
  • Which book do you like? 
  • Which CD album did you buy? 
  • How do you solve your problem? 
Note:
  • 'What' is used in questions to ask about things or activities.
  • 'Who' is used in questions as the subject of the verb, usually the people.
  • 'Where' is used to ask about places.
  • 'When' is used to ask about general or specific time.
  • 'Why' is used to ask about reasons.
  • 'Which’ is used to talk about things, especially choices with a small number of possible answers.
  • 'How' is used to ask in what way.
