John Winston Ono Lennon usually known "John Lennon" (1940-1980) was one of the most famous English rock musician, singer-songwriter, author, and peace activist who gained worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles. Together with his friend, Paul McCartney, he formed one of the most influential and successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century and wrote some of the most popular music in rock and roll history. 

Lennon left The Beatles in 1970. That same year he released the ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band’ album, which he recorded with his Japanese wife Yoko Ono. His album ‘Imagine’ followed in 1971. The title song became an anthem for anti-war movements. On 8th December 1980, he was shot and killed outside his New York apartment by a deranged fan.
